Learn how to make delicious Golden Crunch Sweet Potatoes. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch thick rounds or sticks
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (for a vegan option, maple syrup works beautifully)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (for a smoky depth, but you can omit or substitute with regular paprika)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch, optional but highly recommended)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for added texture and flavor)

Feel free to experiment with substitutions — if you’re not a fan of cinnamon, a sprinkle of nutmeg or a dash of allspice can give a different warm note. For a gluten-free version, just skip the breadcrumbs or use gluten-free panko. I’ve found that a good quality honey or real maple syrup really elevates the sweetness and caramelization, but you can adjust the amount to suit your taste.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and even crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  3. Add the sliced sweet potatoes to the bowl and toss gently until all pieces are evenly coated with the spice mixture. I like to use my hands here — it’s messy but fun, and I can make sure every piece gets some love.
  4. If you’re using breadcrumbs and nuts, sprinkle them over the coated sweet potatoes and toss again gently to distribute evenly.
  5. Arrange the coated sweet potatoes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they’re not crowded, so they can crisp up nicely.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through. Keep an eye out for that beautiful golden color and crispy edges — that’s when you know they’re ready.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. The crunch will develop a bit more as they rest. Serve warm, and enjoy that irresistible combination of sweet, spicy, and crispy goodness.
