Ingredients
Scale
2 large steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or your favorite cut), about 1 inch thick
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 pound baby potatoes or small Yukon Gold potatoes
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
If you prefer a milder flavor, substitute smoked paprika with sweet paprika.
For a dairy-free option, use olive oil instead of butter in the potatoes and garlic butter.
Can’t find baby potatoes? Regular potatoes chopped into small cubes work just as well.
Instructions
Prepare the potatoes: Start by washing the baby potatoes thoroughly. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the potatoes until they are just tender when pierced with a fork, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Cook the potatoes: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the cooked potatoes, sprinkle with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and thyme. Fry until golden and crispy, about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
Prepare the steak: Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt, pepper, and a pinch of smoked paprika. Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over high heat until very hot. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and sear the steaks for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more done. Once cooked, transfer to a plate and let rest for 5 minutes.
Cook the shrimp: In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add another tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the shrimp, season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and cook until pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from heat.
Make garlic butter sauce: In a small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter with a bit of chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice if desired. Drizzle over the shrimp and potatoes for added flavor.
Assemble and serve: Carve the rested steak into slices. Plate the steak alongside the crispy garlic butter potatoes and shrimp. Garnish with fresh parsley for a burst of color and freshness. Serve immediately and enjoy the warmth from this hearty, loving meal.
